Nutrition can hold different meanings to different people. Each of my clients has their own objective when it comes to their nutrition. Some clients want to eat what they want when they want. The main reason they train is to stay healthy, correct their internal health or have the following conditions;

  • Cancer survivors
  • Family history of heart disease
  • Infertility
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • High glucose levels
  • High cholesterol

As a fitness and nutrition coach, I need to treat each client from where they are. As a result, I get to see a wide spectrum of clients. I would say out of all of those I have the privilege of working with, almost all of them are challenged with:

‘Having a life’ and battling the bulge.

Some of my clients are in their 20’s, while some are in their 60’s!  While diverse in age, health conditions, goals, they all agree that nutrition or diet can be confusing. Doesn’t it seem like a new fad diet pops up every week?

Nutrition is chemistry. We are a walking chemistry project. What we put in our bodies creates disease or health, muscles or muffin tops. More than that, we are human beings being human!

The job of a fitness and nutrition coach is knowing this is all about math and chemistry! We all know the struggle is real. 

  1. Allow yourself to be human. Allow yourself to be human as you start to change your diet. It can be an emotional rollercoaster with temptations and cravings at every turn! Those cravings can come from two places: physiology or psychology.
  2. Harness your physiology by paying attention to the chemistry on your plate. What you eat, how much you eat, and how often you eat it, affect your hormones and our chemistry project. These hormones result in lethargy or energy, depression or optimism, weight loss or gain. This part is the easy part. Chemistry and math are easy. It’s the mental drama that’s hard.
  3. Manage the mental drama, harness the magic. The mind is a powerful tool. However, sometimes it works against us. Referring back to tip #1 allow, it is important to allow your mind to be. To observe it and work with those sabotaging messages.  This is where the magic comes in.  As you manage the mental drama, you start to strengthen the mental tools that create change, that help navigate cravings coming from emotion instead of hunger, and to align your strength with your goal.
